This workshop shows several processes that are useful for the investigator-photographer in his fieldwork. It begins by reviewing photographic equipment currently available and its use. Then it offers some general photographic techniques, recommendations on field photography, and later processing and storage of prints and film. The workshop concludes with instructions on special photographs: PANORAMIC PHOTOS with static and mobile targets, STEREOSCOPIC PHOTOS, DOUBLE-PHOTOS, and SEQUENTIAL PHOTOS. There is a special section with guidelines for the near-sighted field investigator. Practical exercises using photographs taken by the author enhance the methods presented. During a short field trip, students shoot several types of photographs to apply the techniques taught during the workshop. All techniques shown in the workshop may also be applied to digital photography.
These techniques are useful for field work in the exploration of mineral deposits, engineering works’ site evaluations, geological and geotechnical cartography, studies on the excavation of open pits, environmental engineering, engineering geology, archaeology, architecture and natural hazard evaluation, among other disciplines.

The workshop has been given at several universities, technical conferences and corporations in Johannesburg and Pretoria (South Africa), Kingston and Toronto (Canada), Quito (Ecuador), Lima and Puno (Peru), Bogota and Medellin (Colombia).
El taller se ha dictado en varias universidades, congresos tecnicos y empresas de Johannesburgo y Pretoria (Surafrica), Kingston y Toronto (Canada), Quito (Ecuador), Lima y Puno (Peru), Bogota y Medellin (Colombia).
DESCRIPCIÓN DEL TALLER
El presente taller ofrece pautas sobre algunos procesos útiles para el investigador-fotógrafo en su trabajo de campo. Inicialmente incluye recomendaciones acerca del equipo fotográfico disponible en la actualidad y su uso. Luego discute algunas técnicas fotográficas generales, y recomendaciones para fotografía de campo, su posterior procesamiento y almacenamiento. Concluye con instrucciones sobre fotos especiales: FOTOS PANORÁMICAS con objetivo fijo y móvil, FOTOS ESTEREOSCÓPICAS, DOBLE-FOTO y FOTOS SECUENCIALES. Hay una sección especial con sugerencias para el investigador que usa gafas. Se incluyen algunos ejercicios de práctica con fotos tomadas por el autor, para cada uno de los tipos de fotos especiales. También hay una sección donde los asistentes salen al campo para tomar diversos tipos de fotografías, aplicando los métodos aprendidos. Todas las técnicas son aplicables a fotografía digital.
La metodología es útil para trabajar en exploración de sitios de obra, estudios de avance en excavación de canteras, arqueología, urbanismo, ingeniería ambiental, biología, ingeniería forestal, amenazas naturales, exploración minera, arquitectura, ingeniería civil, cartografía geológica y geotécnica, y geología para ingeniería, entre otras disciplinas. El curso puede dictarse con todo tipo de camaras fotográficas.
